VERNON - A special committee that pulled together just days after Gene Pitney died last year will outline its plans on Thursday to honor the late singer.

The Gene Pitney Commemorative Committee will kick off its fundraising and awareness campaign at 7 p.m. at the Vernon Senior Center auditorium, 26 Park Place, in the Rockville section of town.

Pitney died April 5, 2006, in Cardiff, Wales, while on tour.

The executive committee has been meeting since last September to decide how to best honor the "Rockville Rocket," said Bryan Flint, the mayor's Rockville advisor and one of the founding members of the committee.
